Come and experience stunning places near Dingle, County Kerry, that visitors never see!

Sacred standing stones and Celtic crosses. Rugged mountains and crystal waterfalls. Gorgeous lakes and textured forests. Secret beaches known only to locals. Holy wells and ancient beehive huts. Traditional family farms. The Dingle Peninsula in southwest Ireland is a magical, mystical place.

Each morning we will meet in the lively town of Dingle (or at your accommodation) then go out into the hills or to the coast to paint, draw and be inspired.

With personal guidance from international artist Lynn Parr, learn to let loose your inhibitions and express your soul in response to this stunning landscape.

Afternoons and inclement weather can be spent in my spacious studio. In the evenings... well, Dingle is not known as the capital of Irish traditional music for nothing! And the food in the many restaurants and pubs is legendary and world class.

10-13 Sept 2024 * 8-11 Oct 2024

[Custom dates also available – just ask!]

Dingle is a world-famous little town, celebrated for its food, pubs, friendly locals, and 'craic' (fun) — as well as its many colourful shops full of quality hand-crafted gifts.

The pubs in Dingle are places for meeting locals and visitors, and listening to a wide range of music in the evenings. And you are welcome to join in with the singing!

In this course you will see the real Irish countryside and walk lanes known only to locals.

You will visit places that visitors never see and experience the real Dingle Peninsula in all its rugged glory.

Depending on your choice — or weather that's just too wet to sit out in — we can spent afternoons in my studio, finishing what we started in the morning. We will mainly work outdoors, however.

Accommodation

There are some stunning luxury hotels and guest houses in and near Dingle, as well as self-catering cottages and B&Bs. You can find a wide selection by clicking here.  But they fill up fast, so book soon!

What's included

  • Transportation to and from Dingle (or your accommodation nearby) to the painting location each day.
  • Picnic lunch each day, plus tea, coffee, water & snacks..
  • One-to-one guidance from professional artist Lynn Parr. (But don't worry: there is no right or wrong way to approach this creative work. You will be given guidance in expressing yourselves and instruction in techniques, but there are no exams!).
  • Friendly feedback and help with a smile.
  • The opportunity to work in a professional artist's studio – and try a new technique, if you wish.
  • Working in a small group of like-minded creatives, rather than a huge class, which can be intimidating and overwhelming.
  • A vacation break with a difference, giving you the opportunity to see the real rural Ireland that visitors never experience. And go home with a heart full of inspiration (and, hopefully, some finished or part-finished artwork!).

What's NOT included

What to bring

  • Watercolours, acrylics, pastels, pencils, drawing materials and sketchbooks –  but no oil paints or mediums. (You may try them in my studio if they are new to you). Fiber artists are also welcome and you may learn some new stitches! REMEMBER: you have to carry all your kit, and you MUST bring everything you need. You will not be able to purchase art materials in Dingle.
  • Outdoor gear. Even in the summer there may be rain showers, and it can get chilly when you are sitting outdoors painting or drawing for a couple of hours. It may also be muddy.
  • Good hiking boots or shoes for walking from the car to the painting location. The tracks are not paved and can be uneven.
  • A small fold-up painting stool or waterproof picnic blanket to sit on. I will also provide plastic sheets in case you forget!

Who's it for?

  • Adults. You must be fit enough to walk a few hundred metres along a rough track, and sit outdoors for 2-3 hours at a time.
  • Both beginners and seasoned artists. You don't have to be an expert. You are only working for yourself, not to impress a judge or other students. If you are a complete beginner, please ask for a suggested materials list.

What to expect

  • Stunning landscape with jaw-dropping views.
  • Experience of special places that most visitors never see.
  • Expert tuition, guidance and feedback. No pressure to conform to someone else's ideas!
  • The opportunity to try new techniques in a no-pressure situation.
  • A friendly, small group of creative people who may become lifelong friends.
  • Fun and friendship in the special place that is Dingle. There's nowhere else like it!
  • A spiritual, creative, magical experience that will stay with you long after you have returned home.
