Welcome

"I am fascinated with natural patterns and the effect of light on natural forms. My work is intuitive, experimental; responding to the moment, the emotion, the place."

Lynn Parr is a contemporary artist, writer and photographer inspired by the natural world.

Her mixed-media artworks are created using oils, watercolour, pastels, textiles, collage and/or embroidery, using her training as a photographer, ecologist and writer to inform her work.

At various times she has worked as a writer, editor, artist, ecologist and photographer, editing newspapers, international magazines and scientific reports, and producing and presenting radio and TV programmes – including for the BBC.

She is also a musician and singer, playing guitar, fiddle, piano, low whistle and Irish harp, sometimes in a dark corner of a Dingle pub.

She is married to the international sculptor Ben Dearnley, and they live near Dingle in wonderful West Kerry, Ireland – a place of family heritage, close to their hearts and minds.

"I am inspired by the colours, textures, landscapes, history and mythology of this magical place, where my heritage meets my sensibilities and settles my soul."

Lynn's Dingle newsletter, The Hare's Corner, is available here.

A long time ago in a universe far, far away...

After studying fine art and photography at college, Lynn travelled around the Western United States, finally settling in Wyoming, where she lived for 10 years. During this time, while working as a newspaper editor, she documented the wildlife and landscape of the stunning Rocky Mountains and High Plains in her writing, paintings and photographs.

Her life as the wife of a working cowboy – along with the history of the Wild West – are documented in her book Cowgirl: A Home on the Wyoming Range, which is in its second edition. Signed copies are available here.

Later, she retrained as an ecologist and creative nature writer. Lynn holds a PhD in Biological Sciences (Aquatic Ecology) from the University of Essex, a BSc (Hons) in Ecology from the University of East Anglia, and an MA in Writing Nature & Place from the University of Exeter.
